TO LEARN MORE ABOUT WHAT WE DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
The Sleeping Lady Lions club was formed in 1992. Many of the charter members were
members of the former Eagle River Lioness club.
Our main mission is to provide community service and aid to anyone in need in our
community.
We accomplish this though the giving of our time, to raise money through fundraising
events and "hands on" service projects
We also sponsor a youth lions group for youths 11-19 years of age. The Bear Mt. Leos work along side the Sleeping lady lions as well as many projects of their own to help their community.

ANNUAL PROJECT'S |
PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
| VALENTINE'S FUNDRAISER | This project is our annual "Scholarship" project and each year we donate between $15,000 in local scholarships. This fundraise includes a valentines dinner, silent auction, live auction and a raffle of various prizes. The Bear Mt. Leo's join in helping us with this project. |
| SPRING GARAGE SALE | Our club sells tables to the community members where they can sell garage sale items, crafts, bake sale items, etc. We also have a Sleeping lady Lions table with donated items from club members and community members. All proceeds from the SLL Table and table sales are placed in our Sleeping Lady Lions Foundation account. |
| SCHOLARSHIPS | We provide scholarships for High School Graduates and community members who would like to continue with their education and are in need of financial help. Several of our members review the scholarship folders each year at the local High Schools and recommend recipients. We also have an application for community members to submit to our club who are already out of school but would like to further their education. Generally we donated around $15,000.00 per but the amount can vary each year depending on our fundraising. |

JULY 3RD. CELEBRATION |
Each July the Sleeping Lady Lions join the Eagle River Lions in providing a spectacular independence day celebration. The event provides a "FREE" event of Music, kids games, food venders, sky divers, beer garden and a beautiful display of fireworks at midnight. |
| BEAR PAW FESTIVAL | The Sleeping Ladies are very active in the Eagle River Bear Paw Festival. We are the sponsors of the Bear Paw Pageant, sponsor of a slippery salmon team and have a float in the Bear Paw Parade which has resulted first place for 2 years in a row! |
| ARCH HOME | Volunteers of America runs a home for youth who are trying to overcome Alcohol and/or drug abuse. The home is located within our community and even though they are run by Volunteers of America they are always in need of addition funding and help. Our club provides them with many needs such as Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Dinner, Christmas gifts, items for their awards cabinet, fair tickets and concert tickets. We also provide each client with a backpack upon graduation from the program that includes many essential such as toothpaste, tooth bushes, towels, phone cards, etc. The Bear Mt. Leo's also provide Easter Baskets for the clients. |
| SENIOR BINGO | We provide Bingo for the seniors at the Chugiak Senior Center every month. Bingo is held the 2nd Monday of each month at 1:30pm. |
| TREE OF GIVING | The local Schools & Eagle River Parks and Recreation provides our club with names of community members who are in need of assistance with gift at Christmas time. We assign each family with a number and put a tag on 3 to 4 tree's which we place around our community (Wal-Mart, Credit Union One, 1st Nat, Bowling Alley and other area businesses). We collect, sort and distribute the Christmas gifts. |
